How do I Choose a Ring She'll Love?

First, we're going to show you some basic ring styles, and then we're going to tell you about the metals they can be made with. We'll top it off with a few more tips.

Ring Styles

We've organized these ring styles to make it easy for you to compare them to the jewellery she currently wears most. This should start you off in the right direction.

Classic Solitaire
Solitaire Engagement Ring Design This is a single diamond ring with no side or shoulder stones. Choose between a 4 or a 6 claw setting for the diamond. Although 6 claws appear to provide more security for the diamond, we suggest the heavier 4 claw setting. There are less chances for snagging material, and we find there is less upkeep required as well.

Side Stones
Engagement Ring Design with Side Stones If this is your preference, the world is your oyster (as they say). Once you have made a decision on the center diamond, choose amongst a variety of options for the shoulder stones. You can have baguettes, pear shape, round or even square princess diamonds to name a few. As well, they don't have to be diamonds at all. Many decide to use rubies, sapphires or just about any other colored gemstone. The choice is yours.

3 Stone Rings
Three Stone Engagement Ring Design Classically, the trio ring contains a larger center stone and two smaller ones for the shoulders. The band can be customized in any style you wish. The recent introduction to the PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE style contains three diamonds; all of the same size and shape to commemorate the three stages of your lives together. This ring style is growing in popularity.

Contemporary - Custom Design
Contemporary Engagement Ring Design You can view many of our rings already available on our online catalogue or consider having something completely unique, with a touch of her flare. In other words, you don't have to pick what everyone else has. Be creative if you wish. Change the order of the stones so that they form a design. Or perhaps you would like your band to represent a dolphin, snake or other interesting symbol of your love. You're the boss at Jeff Walters Diamonds.

Antique
Antique Engagement Ring Design Antique can mean that the ring is a new design with the antique flare, or it can really be an antique. You can have a new ring made according to an old family heirloom piece complete with filigree and all. Come in and view some classic ideas in our industry design catalogues. If you can think it, we can make it.

Metals

The most popular metal used in today's wedding sets is 14kt white or yellow gold.

Although 10kt and 18kt are preferences by many as well, we generally recommend 14kt gold for most of our rings. Simply speaking, 10kt often leaves an allergic reaction over time in many people and 18kt tends to bleed through a yellow tinge in white gold over time. As well, 18kt is a bit softer over the long-term.

Platinum is also an option due to its durability and purity of metal. It won't wear away or tarnish, but it can also be a bit more work to repair, especially around colored gems stones and smaller diamonds. As well, due to it's rarity, platinum is roughly 2 to 3 times more expensive than gold, and yet well worth the money for those who prefer it.

Titanium has recently hit the market in the last few years. It's light weight characteristic sets it apart from other rings. Titanium is best known as the material used for the tiles on the Space Shuttles, making it a very durable material indeed. However, as our fingers change over time, Titanium will not. Hence, sizing the ring is not an option.
