Question: I have a pearl ring that lost its outer coating or shine. Is there a way to get it put back on or is it toast?
Answer: This 'outer coating or shine' you speak of is referred to as the nacre of the pearl. Nacre is produced by the buildup of many layers of microscopic crystals of calcium carbonate, which the oyster or mollusks produce. The thicker the nacre, the more beautiful, rare, valuable and long lasting the pearl. Generally, a single pearl is quite reasonable to replace.
Question: Susan's birthstone is Emerald, for the month of May. The ring she wants her husband to have us make has a large oval stone in the middle and she's afraid the price will scare her husband away. What should she do?
Answer: If the price quoted is out of budget, then consider a lab created emerald. What we mean by lab created is just that. Under ideal conditions, an emerald is made with the same properties of a genuine stone from the ground, but for a fraction of the cost. The stones look amazing and have no inclusions as an added bonus.
